Mani Monday: Oscar Gown Inspired

Oscar 2014 Nail Art

For this Mani Monday I decided to use one of the gorgeous gowns from last night’s Oscars as inspiration. The Oscars are one of my favourite nights of the year – I watch as many nominated movies as possible and treat the red carpet almost like a religious event. I watched as dress after dress walked down the red carpet, then I saw this photo of Angelina Jolie in this stunning Elie Saab dress and knew it was going to be my inspiration.

Angelina was easily one of my favourites from last night (also loved Lupita Nyong’o, Cate Blanchett and Kate Hudson). I love the detail of the sparkle and the pattern it creates. In this photo it reads very gold/taupes/bronzes, but on stage it read silver, I chose the first combo but either would be great for this nail design. I used Julep’s Florence as the base and 6 different golds/taupes to create the lines. Really I only needed the polishes shown below but I wanted to add extra depth. All the lines were created using a thin nail art brush. I personally love this nail design – subtle enough for every day wear but just adds that touch of sparkle and flair.

Who did you love on the red carpet? What was your favourite nominated movie? Any other looks you’d like me create on my nails? Let me know in the comments!
