Empties #9: November 2014

I’ve been saving up my garbage and recycling and wanted to share what I loved, hated and was neutral on. A nice mix of skincare, haircare and makeup used up over the past month. Been trying to use up as much as possible during my Spending Ban and already have more empties waiting to be discussed.

Amie Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes* – I really enjoyed using these to remove my makeup before I washed my face. Very gentle on my skin and they were pretty effective, except for on waterproof mascara. Verdict: Will repurchase

Juicy Bamboo Natural Bamboo Cleansing Cloths – I received this sample while I was at the Canadian Beauty Innovation Awards Gala. These are all natural cleansing cloths that left my skin feeling so soft and smooth. They didn’t quite get rid of my waterproof mascara but did great on a full face of nighttime makeup. Verdict: May repurchase

Bioré Makeup Removing Towelettes – My least favourite of the wipes I’ve used up recently. These wipes are much rougher than the Amie or Juicy Bamboo ones and did irritate my skin. If you don’t have sensitive skin, these do work pretty well in removing makeup. Verdict: Will not repurchase

La Fresh Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipe – This was in a hotel I stayed in during the summer and I may need to buy a pack of these. So effective in removing my makeup, scent was great, nicely saturated wipe. Plus I like the individual nature of this wipe so you don’t have to worry about your pack drying out because you haven’t used them recently. Verdict: Will repurchase

Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 – This is a holy grail product for me. A toner that keeps my skin in check while also lightly exfoliating the skin. They have different levels of this product 1 being for the most sensitive of skin up to 4 for the most oily skin type. Verdict: Already repurchased

Clairol Natural Instincts and Nice n Easy Conditioning Treatments – Using up my stash of hair dye conditioning treatments my friend gave me, I love using these a few times a week to keep my hair in good shape. I’ve also started using them as part of my hair dye refresh (which I will be writing about soon) as I do have the difficult to preserve red coloured hair.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Illuminating Conditioner – ahhh John Frieda products smell so nice! They work wonders too by hydrating my hair and adding shine. Verdict: May repurchase if I go back to brunette hair one day

Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo – oh boy. I had high hopes for this product but it just didn’t work. While it didn’t leave my hair looking like I dumped a bunch of baby powder in it because it is invisible, it splatter my clothes and surroundings with white droplets. So while my hair looked good, I couldn’t use this product without ruining my clothes, makeup. Verdict: Will not repurchase

Batisse Dry Shampoo A Hint of Colour Dark Deep Brown – When I was a brunette this was my holy grail product. No white residue. Great results after using it. The scent was fantastic. I really wish they had a red version of this especially as coloured redheads shouldn’t wash their hair very often. Verdict: Will repurchase if I go back to brunette hair one day

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil – LOVE LOVE LOVE! This oil instantly hydrated my skin but didn’t break it out. The vitamin C in it can help with dark spots but as the sample was small I didn’t see any of those results. It smells soooo good! Verdict: Will repurchase

Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil – While I may have loved the Ole Henriksen oil, this one was too heavy for my skin. It didn’t absorb as quickly and definitely didn’t smell as good. This would definitely be better for more mature skin. Verdict: Will not repurchase

Uberliss Rituoil – Hands down one of the best smelling oil I have ever tried. It has a wonderful floral scent – most likely from the Orchid Oil. Nice, light oil that quickly absorbs into my hair and gives it tons of moisture and shine. Verdict: Will repurchase

Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Normal/Dry Skin in Buff – A really great medium-full coverage foundation from the drugstore. This doesn’t dry out my skin and lasts all day or night. I really like that they have formulations for both dry and oily skin. I would definitely go out to buy it if I wasn’t in love with the Lancome Teint Miracle Verdict: May repurchase

No Cosmetics No Dark Shadows Concealer – First off this product lasted for ages. I used it almost every single day from the beginning of May and I finished it up at the end of October. It’s a great coverage concealer that doesn’t dry out my undereye area. Easily blends into the skin and covers up my dark circles. Verdict: Will repurchase

Revlon Natural Lashes – These poor lashes got bent and I have to say goodbye. A nice thin band that blends into my natural lash line. Nice natural boost to my lashes without looking like I’m actually wearing any. Verdict: Will repurchase

LashGrip Eyelash Adhesive – This is a pretty decent lash glue and I thought it was great before I tried Duo. Holds my lashes on last night but I find it harder to apply lashes with this glue than when I use Duo. Verdict: Will not repurchase

that’s it! Can’t wait to see how much I can use up in the next month or so.

til next time…
