Birchbox: December 2014

Happy New Year everyone! I’m way behind on my beauty subscription posts and my resolution for 2015 is to stay more organized and on top of things. To stick with this resolution, I’ll be updating you all on my recent beauty subscriptions over the next little bit.

The most recent box to come in was the December 2014 Birchbox – the latest beauty subscription to come to Canada!

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service that costs $10 +$4.95 for shipping and handling. Each month you will receive 5 items ranging from makeup to skincare to nail polish.

This month I received:

Harvey Prince Ageless Liquid Loofah (Retails for $26) – “Infused with Harvey Prince Ageless perfume, this hypoallergenic wash gently exfoliates skin without the need for scrubbing beads, leaving your complexion silky and moisturized. The formula comes to you free of parabens, silicones, sulfates, ethanol, phthalates, benzene, GMOs, triclosan, and is never tested on animals.”
I have yet to try this out but it does smell nice. Will not be purchasing it as I can spend $26 on much better things than body wash.

Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator (Retails for $34) – This powerful exfoliator mimics the results of professional microdermabrasion, minus the potential for redness and sensitivity. First, papaya enzymes break down dead cells while evening out your skin tone. Next, dermatologist-approved microderm crystals fade the appearance of fine lines and acne scars, leaving skin smooth and free of imperfections. Finally, aloe vera, coconut, and vitamins B and E nourish fresh skin to keep it free of irritation.”
I absolutely love this exfoliator. Lots of micro scrubby bits that leave my skin feeling soft and smooth. Too harsh for every day use but great for twice weekly scrubs.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner (Retails for $18) – These luxe, creamy liners deliver bold color that lasts and lasts. Choose from a range of wearable shades, from basic black to eye-catching metallic. Vegan, cruelty-free, and paraben-free, these liners feature Cynthia Rowley’s signature gold foil design.”
I don’t really need another black eyeliner. But alas, I have one now. Hopefully this will stand up in my waterline.

Benefit High Beam (Retails for $32) – It’s all about the shimmer. This liquid illuminator comes in a soft pink hue that flatters all skin tones. It softly reflects light for an instant spotlight effect, plus gives skin a dewy finish.”
I just got a sample of this a little while ago and these samples last for ages so I’m good on the highlighter front. Will be great to make my skin look alive in the dead of winter.

amika Nourishing Mask (Retails for $31) – The star ingredient is sea buckthorn berry, which has been used for centuries to heal wounds, treat sunburns, and slow the aging process. No wonder: it’s chock-full of omegas 3, 6, 9, and 7 and vitamins C and E. Together, they treat hair from the inside out to give your locks a healthy luster that can’t be beat.”
Again, haven’t tried this out yet. I can always use hair masks though. Will have to wait for a day when I don’t refresh my hair colour in the shower though.

Overall, I am pretty neutral on the first Birchbox box. A nice variety of products but I was a little underwhelmed. Hopefully next month will be a bit more exciting!

Keep an eye out for these products in future Empties posts!

til next time…
