Well the month of January basically flew by! Overall, it was a good month – was pretty productive at school, been keeping to a schedule with blogging and just overall feeling pretty great. I’m trying to test out more skincare products nowadays but struggling with the fact that I really like my current routine. Hoping I can continue with the test-a-thon so I can use up a bunch of my samples. I picked up a few makeup products over the month but really have to go on a spending ban for the next month as I’m going to New Orleans in March.
This month I was in the lab a lot and when I’m there I don’t do a lot in terms of makeup so I reached for products that were quick, easy and performed well.
Maybelline The Smokes Palette – I had already owned the Nudes palette and enjoyed it so far but when I saw this one I knew I had to have it. I have a lot of natural eyeshadows but this one features a lot of smoky (shocking) shades. It definitely added some unique shades to my collection and I have really enjoyed playing with it. So far I have 4 favourite shades that I have swatched below – that metallic gray-green one is to die for. I do plan on doing a full on review for this and hopefully do a look or two in the near-ish future. I did post a picture of a look I created on Instagram this past weekend that featured the metallic gray-green shade all over the lid.
Buxom Full On Lip Cream in White Russian – I love the Buxom lip gloss formula. It’s thick and glossy without being overly sticky. This one is the perfect topper for a lot of different lipsticks from nudes to pinks to brights to tone them down. I also love the scent and the slight tingle of these! Other than the Marc Jacobs glosses these might just be my favourite higher end gloss in general.
NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray – I picked this up last year when I was in Atlanta and didn’t really use it that much until recently. With the winter months, even the slightest amount of powder makes my skin look extra dull and dry. I use this setting spray to get rid of the look of any powder that I use and to also add a bit of radiance and glow back to my skin. This is a great setting spray for dry skin as it does provide a dewy finish, but not greasy or oily looking at all.
NeoStrata Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Cream* – I have already raved about this in my previous review of NeoStrata products but I just had to rave a little bit more! This glycolic acid does not irritate my skin and keeps it looking even in tone and texture. I use this every other night or so and I do top it with a night cream and face oil to make sure that the new skin cells on the surface are nicely moisturized. I just picked up a new bottle of this at Shoppers as it was on sale and I knew I’d be running out soon and didn’t want to be without it for a single night.
Ole Henriksen Grease Relief Cleansing Cloths – Okay, I know I have dry skin. But these cleansing cloths do wonders to my skin! One side of the cloth features little exfoliating beads that help exfoliate the skin manually plus the cloths have AHAs in them which chemically exfoliates the skin. The eucalyptus makes it a very calming experience while using them. I don’t use these on nights when I use my glycolic acid or if my skin is super dry. When I do use them I don’t notice any extra irritation or redness, just clean and smooth skin.
Fail: Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask – I was really excited to try this out as I love my Origins Drink Up mask. I’ve tried this twice and the first time I could feel a bit of tingling but didn’t see any results. The second time I didn’t experience any tingling and again didn’t see any results. I want to see/feel immediate results when I use a mask and this just didn’t do it for me.
Have you tried any of these products before? Agree or disagree with my thoughts? Make sure to leave your links to your January favourites posts in the comments so I can read them!
til next time…
