Awhile back (ahem….Boxing Day) I purchased a mini duo of the Ole Henriksen Truth serum and oil and wanted to make sure I really gave these a good try before writing about them. The Ole Henriksen brand has always intrigued me so I was very happy to see an affordable way to test out some products at Sephora.
The Truth Serum Collagen Booster promises to brighten the skin’s appearance, minimize fine lines, and nourish the skin. The serum is a lightweight texture that easily applies over the skin and absorbs very quickly. It leaves the skin feeling nourished but not overly hydrated. It contains green tea, sodium hyaluronate and vitamin C to help with brightness, hydration and defense against free radical damage. The scent of this serum is wonderful – nice, fresh citrus-y – and is a great pick me up in the morning. Now I didn’t notice any drastic brightening while using this nor any fine line minimizing. However, my skin didn’t break out while using this and it did help my moisturizer sink into my skin more so than without a serum beforehand. I always like having a serum as part of my skincare routine and this one did an alright job but I know there has to be something better out there.
The Pure Truth Vitamin C Youth Activating Oil compliments the serum and promises to heal, nourish and hydrate the skin. As well, the rose hips seed oil contains vitamin C and A to help with brightening and fine lines. The oil is very lightweight, especially when compared to something heavier like the Josie Maran Argan Oil, but packs more of a punch than other oils you can find in Sephora. It does leave skin very glowy (almost oily) so I only recommend it for nighttime use as it most likely would break down your foundation. Now while I have basically finished the serum, I just can’t bring myself to use this every night because of the scent. I can’t stand the scent of this product. They say it’s a citrus scent but it’s certainly not a light, fresh citrus scent that you would expect. It’s a very herbal, earthy and heavy citrus scent. The oil hasn’t broken my skin out which is great but I can’t see myself finishing off the mini bottle because of the scent.
Have you ever tried these products? Have they worked for you? What are some of your favourite serums and oils for me to try in the future?
til next time…
