Mani Monday: Sheer Ombré

Sheer Ombré Nail Art Design Essie 2015 Bridal Collection

I recently got my hands on the new Bridal Collection from Essie and wanted to highlight two of the polishes in a Mani Monday. A simple ombré nail design is what I decided on which is great because I need to practice this technique a lot more.

The two shades that I decided on were Tying the Knotie (a sheer pale pink) and Brides No Grooms (a bright saturated watermelon pink). I simply used a wedge makeup sponge to create the ombré and didn’t use any base coat colour to make sure that the pale pink was still sheer. That probably wasn’t the best idea as it came out kind of patchy, especially on my middle finger.

I really like the shade of Brides No Grooms but I really do struggle with Essie’s formulation. I can never get it to not streak or look perfect to my critical eye. Any tips on how to make these polishes work for you? People swear by Essie polishes but I just don’t get it.

I’m not a sheer polish fan but I am happy that I tested it out again. The ombré looks really cool, especially from far away when you can’t see all the imperfections.

Do you have a line of polishes that you just can’t get to work for you? Any tips on mastering ombré?
