Born Pretty is synonymous to me with nail art supplies. I have ordered from them time and time again for rhinestones, studs, water decals and more. So when I was contacted to try out some makeup products I was very curious about the quality of the products. I tried my best to pick out products that would cohesively work in a makeup look and I think I did a darn good job at that! I also received a pair of lashes but they do not suit this look at all so keep an eye out for them in a dramatic nighttime look or for Hallowe’en!
Now I created this look while I was at my parent’s house and was really able to see how versatile the eyeshadow palette would be for travelling. The JoJo eyeshadow palette ($7.13) features 6 shimmery eyeshadows and 2 blushes. I chose a more bronze-taupe palette as these are my favourite shades to wear on a day-to-day basis. Now the shadows and blushes are very nicely pigmented but I just wish that there was a matte shade within the shadows for the crease area. I ended up using my Sephora bronzer in Los Cabos to blend out the eyeshadow on the top left. I also took the middle shade in the bottom row to run along my lower lashline and blended that out with bronzer as well. That shade is a super nice antiqued gold shade, which would be great in a smokey gold eye look. I also used the white shade in the bottom right corner and the sponge applicator to highlight my inner eye as well as my browbone and it did such a great job! Now in the pictures the shadows did get washed out a bit, maybe due to the shimmery nature of them, but they still create a very pretty look.
The blushes in this palette are SUPER pigmented so you need to use a light hand when applying. I used the top coral-pink shade and loved the flush it gave to my cheeks. The highlight you see is the Becca Highlighter in Champagne Pop, cause I’m obsessed with it. Overall, with maybe bringing a matte brown shade, or using your bronzer, this palette would do great for a weekend trip away and can create a nice selection of looks.
The lipstick is a take on the liquid lipstick, which is very popular right now. The Velvet Liquid Lip Gloss Moisturizing Long Lasting Charming Lip Stick comes in 12 colours and I tried out #7. In the description it promises to be moisturizing and long lasting. Now while it looks fantastic on the lips – bright pink in all its’ glory – it is actually very uncomfortable to wear. You can feel it on your lips and then your lips feel dry. Don’t try to lick your lips or rub them together though as this will dissolve or crumble off.
Overall, I am pretty happy with the eyeshadow palette – it would be good to travel with for sure. But the lipstick missed the mark for me. However, as these products are so affordable, I am sure that there are other gems on the site. I will definitely be picking up a few items when I order my next batch of nail art supplies.
