Mani Monday: Metallic Brushstrokes

Abstract Nail Art Design Dry Brushing Chanel Vibrato Swatch

Some weeks I just don’t feel like doing a super intricate nail art design. This week is one of those weeks. So what’s a quick way to update a plain mani? Dry brushing technique!

I also get to feature one of the latest nail polishes in my collection – Chanel’s Vibrato.

Dry brushing is a great, simple technique that creates an abstract nail art design. You can choose any colour combinations you wish whether it be neons on a white polish, your favourite sports teams colours or metallics over a darker shade of polish.

The technique of dry brushing is very easy to do. Once you’ve painted your nails with your desired base colour, take the first of the accent colours and remove as much polish from the brush as possible by scraping it on the opening of the polish. The less polish on the brush the better as you will be able to see more of the small brushstrokes. Randomly create brushstrokes on your nails with all of the accent colours, even go back with the first colour at the end to make the design more layered.

Once everything has dried for about 10 minutes, apply your favourite top coat to seal in the design (this design would also look great with a matte top coat). See, easy as that!

Like I had said, this Chanel nail polish in Vibrato is one of the latest additions to my collection. It is a bright, medium toned cobalt blue with a cream finish. You can actually get away with one coat if you apply it carefully but in this look I used 2 coats. As with all Chanel polishes, the formulation is awesome – not too thin, not too thick, and self levels like a dream. Over a couple days of wear it does deepen in colour a slight bit.
