OPI has recently paired up with Hello Kitty to create one of the cutest nail polish collections I have seen in a long while. From girly pinks to bold primary colours, the OPI Hello Kitty Collection really does scream Hello Kitty when you see it.
I was fortunate enough to receive the entire 12 piece collection and have swatched all of the polishes from the OPI Hello Kitty Collection in the past few days. For the most part, all of the swatches are 2 coats, with no top coat applied. If more coats or difficult application was found, I will note that in my quick review below the swatch.
Kitty White – This pearl white shade serves best as a top coat like polish over a white or pale pink shade. If you don’t mind seeing the whites of your nails through then 3 coats is best to get decent opacity without making it so thick that it will chip the next day. A bit of a pain to clean up around the cuticles so watch out for that.
Let’s Be Friends – This pale, cotton-candy pink is a great staple for any nail polish lover. Minimal streaking after the second coat. Just make sure to use a thin first coat and let it dry for a minute or two before applying the second coat of polish.
Small + Cute = ♥ – This warm baby pink is a great alternative to Let’s Be Friends! if you don’t love really pale pinks. Same tips for application, with allowing the first thin layer to dry for a minute or two before applying the next coat.
Look at My Bow! – Now we are getting into the midtone pinks. This one is a great in-between but I have to say it was the hardest to apply out of the bunch. I don’t know if it was just an off day but I had to redo my middle finger because of pooling/streaking. The other fingers were fine but that one finger gave me troubles. For this shade, my tip is to use very thin layers to avoid the pooling/streaking I experienced.
Super Cute in Pink – This was the shade that I was most excited for (well, out of the pinks). This medium toned pink has a strong lean towards purple making it quite unique. However, once I started applying it, I realized that it’s a mix between a jelly and cream finish polish. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it just took me off guard. I thought that 2 coats would be enough but in daylight I could see the line separating the nail bed and tips. Three coats should fix this problem. I still absolutely love the shade of pink though.
Spoken from the Heart – Like Super Cute in Pink, this was one of the shades I was most excited about from the OPI Hello Kitty Collection. A vibrant coral pink that is almost neon on the nails. Application was very easy, with two coats making it perfectly opaque. I can’t wait for the summer months to sport this on my toes!
5 Apples Tall – This apple red is a great staple red polish if you are in the market for one. It leans a little warm which is a refreshing change from the typical blue toned red. Application was great for this shade as well
My Twin Mimmy – Yellow nail polishes can be hard to come by. But this one is fantastic. I did need 3 coats to get full opacity but that is expected for a yellow polish. Wonderful addition to your collection, especially for nail art designs.
My Pal Joey – Continuing with the primary colours, this vibrant blue is the perfect cream finish blue (in my opinion). Very reminiscent of Essie’s Butler Please but with a better formulation that just needs two coats to have perfect opacity.
Never Have Too Mani Friends – To help with any nail art that you create with this collection, this black is the perfect compliment. Almost a one coater and beautifully shiny. A great black polish if you are in need for a new one.
Charmmy & Sugar – The glitter polishes in this collection also caught my attention. Charmmy & Sugar is a stunning mixture of pink, silver and multi-coloured glitter. This would look amazing over top one of the pale pinks in the collection. But it is shown here with 3 coats. Pretty great coverage considering it is a shimmer/glitter polish but you can still see your nail underneath.
Starry-eyed for Dear Daniel – OMG. This fuchsia glitter polish is a true showstopper. Fuchsia with flecks of an almost dark silver glitter. Opaque after 3 coats but you could also put it over a midtone/fuchsia pink.
What shades are your favourite from the OPI Hello Kitty Collection?
til next time…
