The Mary Kay Summer 2016 collection launched on May 16th and combines both limited edition products as well as new core products. I was fortunate enough to get to try out the majority of the collection and wanted to share swatches and my thoughts with you before you decide which goodies you’ll be picking up.
Perfecting Concealer ($17.50) — Starting with the new core products, the Perfecting Concealer is a one-stop shop for concealing. Use it to cover acne or uneven skin tone as well as under the eye to conceal dark circles. This relatively lightweight concealer has light-diffusing technology to blur the imperfections on your skin. It is very easy to blend out and comes in 6 different shades. Now if you have very dry undereyes, I would recommend that you steer clear of this product for that area. Or you can always start off with a very rich eye cream. I really enjoyed the pigmentation and that there were shades even too light for my pale skin. I find it is a little thicker than the Urban Decay corrector but thinner than the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. I didn’t have many issues with creasing but I did set it with a setting powder in the morning. The swatches below do not have the darkest shade because I couldn’t get the packaging open (and oh boy did I ever try!)
Shades shown – Light Ivory, Deep Ivory, Light Beige, Deep Beige, and Light Bronze
Undereye Corrector ($17.50) — Now if concealer just won’t cut it for your undereye area, Mary Kay has also released an undereye corrector. This peach corrector helps to cancel the blues in your undereye circles as well as brighten up the area. Apply this before concealer and you won’t have to use so much concealer to achieve the same look as if you just used concealer. The consistency of the corrector is very similar to the concealers. Again, in comparison to the Urban Decay Peach Corrector, this shade is lighter, making it perfect for light to medium skin tones.
Mineral Eye Colour Bundle and Rose Gold Compact Mini (Limited Edition. Together $76; separate $54 and $22 respectively) — This beautiful compact features a magnetic portion where you can put the Mineral Eye Colour Bundle, or any magnetized beauty items of your liking. The 6 shadows in the bundle include the shades: Sweet Cream, Spun Silk, Moonstone, Rosegold, Driftwood and Espresso. The lighter shades don’t have a ton of pigmentation but can be built up on the eyes very easily (I really like combining Sweet Cream and Moonstone for an inner corner highlight). All of the shadows blend very nicely and didn’t wear off throughout the day. If you want a eyeshadow palette that is perfect for travelling, this would be a great option as it is so tiny and full of neutral shadows.
Beauty That Counts® Hearts Together Lipstick (Limited Edition. $18) — This lipstick (with such cute packaging and lipstick bullet) is a great classic pink shade and in between a cream and sheer lipstick in finish. What’s even better is that with every sale of one of these lipsticks, $1 will be donated to the Look Good Feel Better program that is run by the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. This program helps end violence against women by providing grants to womens’ shelters and community outreach programs.
True Dimensions Sheer Lipstick in Flamenco Red (Limited Edition. $19) — Now while the True Dimensions Sheer Lipsticks are not new to Mary Kay, this shade in Flamenco Red is. A perfect juicy, true red shade but it’s sheer formula makes it wearable for daytime. Very comfortable on the lips and doesn’t dry them out. However, because of it’s sheer nature, you will need to reapply more often than if it was a cream finish.
