I wear nail polish 24/7, 365 days a year. A lot of people give me grief about how my nails need to breathe and to take breaks from polish. I usually just ignore this but now I can have a comeback from time to time.
The Quo by Orly Breathable Nail Treatment and Color polishes are a way to take a “break” from nail polish without having bare nails. Enriched with argan oil, pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin C, these polishes nourish the nail from the outside in.
Now the breathable part of these polishes is the unique aspect of this line of polishes. Oxygen and hydrating compounds are able to pass through the polish which then reaches your nail bed to allow for growth both in length and strength.
But to get the benefits of these polishes, you can’t put a base coat or top coat on with the colour. Both of these would block the polish from being breathable. Instead, these polishes promise to be an all in one polish with a base, colour and top coat all combined.
Unfortunately, I just can’t stray away from my Seche Vite (mainly because I do my nails late at night right before bed). But in doing my research, the wear time without a top coat can be up to 4-5 days. Of course this would depend on how you treat your nails. However, I already know that I will be reaching for some of these shades, even if they weren’t breathable.
One last note to make about these polishes is the brush. It is very wide and can fan out quite a bit. If you have a wider nail bed or hate skinny nail polish brushes, then this brush is for you. I, however, found it a bit tricky to use at time and found myself painting outside of the nail bed from time to time.
I have swatches of 5 of the 18 shades that are now available at Shoppers Drug Mart for $10.99. I have applied 2 coats for each swatch picture.
Power Packed – This is the perfect off-white grey shades. One of the easiest shades to work with and had no streaking issues whatsoever.
Nail Superfood – Need a bright pink shade? This might just be the one for you. Now while I am not a huge fan of the shade myself, it’s a great cream finish polish. No major issues with application.
Feeling Free – OMG. This shade of purple is just absolutely stunning. My most favourite of the bunch both for colour and for application. The second coat of this polish made it absolutely perfect and rich.
Love My Nails – Unfortunately I wasn’t super impressed by this classic red shade. It is more sheer than the other shades I’ve swatched. It could have even used a third coat to be perfectly honest.
The Antidote – This rich oxblood-berry polish will be absolutely perfect for fall. While the pigmentation is great, I felt I could have added a third coat to make this look even more like a gel polish or as thick as Feeling Free does.
Overall, I enjoy most of the shades I’ve tried out. I would prefer that a more narrow brush be used instead of the wide one with this polish (but that is a very personal preference). While I may never enjoy the “benefits” this polish promises, I will certainly be reaching for these polishes in the near future.
til next time…
