Review: Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque

Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque Review Dry Skin

The people that are consistent with their masking routine always amaze me. I barely can remember to do one once a week lately, even though I desperately want to treat my skin to some pampering. But once a mask makes me see a difference in my skin immediately, it urges me to up my masking game.

The Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque ($60 CDN) just happens to be one of those masks.

This treatment mask focus on charcoal, one of the hottest skincare ingredients in the past year. Charcoal is like a dry sponge—ready to suck everything up. In this case though, charcoal soaks up all the impurities like dirt, oil, and environment pollutants from your skin.

But charcoal isn’t the only star in this simple, white and grey tube. To help with cell turnover, 5% sulfur has been added which will brighten the skin over time with consistent use. Several exfoliants are also present—both physical and chemical—to slough away any excess dead skin cells. These exfoliants include volcanic ash and sea silt (physical exfoliants) & bamboo extract and AHAs (chemical exfoliants).

Finally, niacinamide (part of the vitamin B group) helps ease congestion in the skin while Chilean wild mint can help with reducing pore size.

Once my skin is cleansed, I apply a decent layer all over my face and down my neck. I let it sit for about 10 minutes then rinse off using lukewarm water and circular motions. The circular motions help exfoliate the skin because of the physical exfoliants in the mask.

After I have rinsed off the mask entirely, my skin feels so smooth and soft. It is a bit dry and tight but considering I have dry to normal skin, that’s not too surprising after using a charcoal mask. My pores look cleared out and even my blackheads that I always struggle with seem reduced for the next day or two.

Now I typically find that once a week or even every other week is sufficient for this mask during the summertime but I will be stepping it down to once a month come winter so that I don’t dry out my skin too much.

If you are in the market for a new mask to introduce into your skincare routine, the price tag may be a little higher for the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque but the results you achieve are worth every penny. It’s great for any skin type, you just have to adjust the frequency of use.
