Now that Fall has been around for a little while, I’m more and more tempted to start playing around with darker hues for my makeup. While I typically reach for plums and berries when the cooler weather sets in, the Mary Kay Runway Bold Fall 2016 Collection actually focuses on dark golds, browns and blues.
The outer packaging for this line is fantastic, with an art deco type of feel. All the products from the Mary Kay Runway Bold Fall 2016 Collection are now available on marykay.ca.
First up is the Limited-Edition Eye Color Palette in Rock the Runway ($26 CDN) eyeshadow palette which features 5 shimmery shades. The pigmentation of the shadows is fantastic while swatching; however, I did find them to be somewhat powdery while doing so. Most of the shades retain their shimmery/glitter finish after applying but the bronze and dark blue don’t have as much glitter when compared to how they appear in the pan. Now while all the shades are lovely, some matte neutral shades are definitely needed to complete any eye look created with this palette. I’ve included a look at the end of this post that I created using this palette.
Next up is the Limited-Edition Gel Liner Duo in Dramatic Gold ($20 CDN) which features two gel liners, one brown with a bronze shimmer and one bronze with a gold shimmer. I can find that some gel liners are very stiff and hard to pick up on the brush and apply to the eye area. But this gel liner duo has more of a mousse-like texture. It glides onto the eye area but I have to be very careful not to pick up too much product onto my brush. I found it very difficult to work with at times while using the brush that comes with the packaging. This may have to do with the brush but I feel like it’s because of the texture of the product. The pigmentation of both of these is fantastic though! In my eye makeup look I have at the end, I’ve used the darker shade as my liner.
The Glowing Finish Illuminating Sticks in Gold and Bronze ($12 USD; appears that they are sold out on the Canadian site at the time) are cream highlighters in stick form. Gold gives my skin a beautiful, subtle glow that makes it look like I’m lit from within. Now Bronze is too deep for strictly highlighting for me but during summer it would be gorgeous to top off any bronzed look I create. Darker skin tones would look great using either shade I think.
To continue with the metallic and blue theme of the collection, three limited edition shades of the Nail Lacquers ($10 CDN) were included. The three shades are: Gold is Bold, Blue Debut and Rosy Encore. Gold is Bold and Rosy Encore are super impressive shimmer polishes with amazing pigmentation and longevity. They especially look stunning when the light catches them. Blue Debut is a deep, royal blue shade that is just a touch brighter than the ever classic Chanel Blue Satin. All three apply very easily but there is something really special about the shimmer shades.
