Joe Fresh Beauty CC Translucent Pressed Powder Universal Beauty Balm Universal Brow Sculpting Wax Eye Shadow Palette in Neutrals Review Swatches

Typically I would have to go down to my local Joe Fresh or Loblaws to look at the Joe Fresh Beauty collection. But with the merging of President’s Choice and Shoppers Drug Mart, you can now find Joe Fresh Beauty in your local SDM’s aisles.

I was able to try out a few products from the collection—an eyeshadow palette, the universal brow wax, a beauty balm, and a translucent powder. Keep reading to see what I loved and what kind of missed the mark!

First, starting with the CC Translucent Pressed Powder ($12), this pressed powder has a multitude of colours within it, instead of just a plain white/translucent powder. I wonder if this actually helps correct any discolourations on the skin but if anything it doesn’t make the powder look too one dimensional. There is a lot of kickup when using it but it doesn’t look overly powdery on the skin. It doesn’t dry out my skin too much and handles any oils that may develop over the day.

One of the more unique offerings is the Universal Beauty Balm ($10). This balm helps to nourish the skin and can be used on the face, hands and body. If you have dry patches on your skin, this can definitely help with that. Plus the stick formulation of it makes it easy for on the go. I also have tried this out as a very natural highlight on the skin. Before applying any powder, I will glide this on and tap it into the skin. Perfect for one of those days when you are wearing very minimal makeup.

Next up, the Universal Brow Sculpting Wax ($12) is something that unfortunately I just couldn’t get behind. I am very particular when it comes to my brows and use a brow pencil and brow gel to make them perfect. This sculpting wax is perfect for someone that already has very full brows and needs very little filling and just wants some control over them. It doesn’t make the brow hairs crunchy but just sets them in place. A hint of colour does help if you only have the tiniest spots to fill in.

Lastly, the item that I was most excited about, the Eye Shadow Palette in Neutrals ($14). Featuring 12 shades ranging from light shimmers to matte black, this palette swatched like an absolute dream. Amazing pigmentation and not too much powder/kick up. The swatches made me even more excited to try out the palette. However, once I started playing around with these shadows to create some eye looks, I became pretty disappointed. The pigmentation just wasn’t coming through, there was a lot of kick up (especially from the darker matte brown shade), and all of the shades seemed to blend all together resulting in an underwhelming result. The saving grace for this palette was when I used some of the midtone shimmer shades wet. It seemed to remedy a lot of the issues I had when I was using them dry but everything blending together still happened a bit.
